We have a staff member dedicated to informing clinicians and other healthcare professionals about our core support and education services—all free and non-medical— to facilitate referrals of persons with dementia and their caregivers and to supplement a physician care plan. We also have materials to offer you.

Training for Alzheimer’s & Dementia Healthcare and Caregiving Professionals

Our experienced training staff offers programs to sensitize professionals and para-professionals to the special needs of people with dementia and their families. We offer individualized trainings to providers of home care as well as staff of adult day care programs, nursing homes, assisted living residences, social service agencies, pastoral ministries, and others. We also offer education opportunities for all professionals in the field to help them better understand the disease, services available in the community and more.

CaringKind SW CPE is recognized by the New York State Education Department’s State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers #0068.

Dementia Care Training for Professional Caregivers

Our nationally-recognized Dementia Care Training for Professional Caregivers specifically aims to empower direct care workers from a variety of settings to provide the highest quality of care to persons with dementia. The training is currently offered in English, Spanish, and Chinese.

This training meets for a full day, once a week for seven weeks, at our main office in midtown Manhattan. Trainees who complete the program receive a certificate of attendance.

This program is open to direct care staff who are paid to provide hands-on care to individuals.

Understanding Dementia for Professionals

This meeting will:

  • Provide information about Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias
  • Discuss the different stages of the disease and what to expect
  • Includes an overview of CaringKind’s free programs and services and other available resources
  • Teach you how to more effectively support people with dementia and their caregivers

Enhancing Communication With Persons With Dementia

This meeting will:

  • Explain the meaning of communication and list various types of communication
  • Describe and apply person-centered theories as frameworks for communicating with a person with dementia
  • Apply communication techniques to case examples of individuals in early, middle, and late stages of dementia
  • Develop and analyze communication strategies to connect with persons with dementia based on need and personhood

Support Group Leaders Training

CaringKind’s Support Group Leader Trainings are offered several times each year and are open to health care professionals and former caregivers who are interested in leading one of our support groups.

This intensive, four-day training incorporates both educational material with experiential group learning and includes information about dementia, caregiving and how support groups work, as well as interviews with experienced support group leaders and an overview of services offered by us.
