As the founding force behind Libertine, Johnson Hartig elevates fashion by creatively immersing himself and those around him in a magical trip where classicism meets new rebellion. Having first launched the label in 2001, today he continues upon his quest of single-handedly revolutionizing the ready-to-wear market for men and women. Hartig paved the way for the current embellishment movement with signature graphic illuminations, screen printing, and crystal/embroidery follies equipped with inspirations as diverse as art, history, design, travel, culture, and fluorescence microscopy cell research. His work is regularly featured in Vogue, WWD, Town & Country, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal, and his designs are worn by notables including Cher, Mick Jagger, Gwen Stefani, Sting, Gwyneth Paltrow, Damien Hirst and more. His book, Libertine: The Creative Beauty, Humor, and Inspiration Behind the Cult Label, was published by Rizzoli in 2015. Today he lives and works in Los Angeles with his rescue dogs Flower and Radish and regularly travels the globe in search of new experiences and adventures.
