A visionary far ahead of his time, Peter Frishauf didn’t just witness the digital revolution in healthcare—he built it. As the pioneering founder of Medscape in 1995, he shattered barriers to free, peer-reviewed medical knowledge, forever transforming how healthcare professionals and educated consumers learn, connect, and practice.

Medscape in 1995 and 1998

Decades before the world embraced digital-first communication, Frishauf was already forging the future— first pioneering paperless workflow and printing of print journals in the 1980s, with a medical “electronic newsroom” using staff-build early networked computers. Rapid publishing reshaped the medical landscape and laid the groundwork for Medscape which continues to thrive and informs 30 years after its founding.

Inducted into the Medical Advertising Hall of Fame in 2013, Frishauf’s legacy is one of disruption, creativity, and an unwavering commitment to bridging medicine, media, and technology. A titan of medical innovation, his influence continues to empower clinicians to transform and improve patient care, empower patients, and inspire better health for all.
