Jed A. Levine is President Emeritus, Director, External Relations at Caring Kind, The Heart of Alzheimer’s Caregiving, formerly known as the Alzheimer’s Association, New York City Chapter, where he has been on staff since 1990. Mr. Levine was most recently President and CEO, and formerly the Executive Vice President and Director of Programs. He is the author of numerous articles on Alzheimer’s and Alzheimer’s care and the co-author of a chapter on Hospital Care for Persons with Dementia, and co-author of a chapter on Disaster Preparedness for Persons with Dementia. At CaringKind Mr. Levine created a successful model of community outreach and service provision to a wide spectrum of diverse groups including the African American, Latinx, Chinese/Asian, LGBT and Orthodox Jewish communities across the five boroughs. He also pioneered and co-led one of the the first early-stage support groups in New York, which led to the creation of the Weinberg Early-Stage Center at CaringKInd, a multi-program and service center for those living with early-stage dementia.
Mr. Levine holds a master’s degree in Applied Human Development with a specialization in Gerontology and Community Recreation Services from Columbia University’s Teachers College. He has post-graduate training in group process from the Center for the Advancement of Group Studies and is in a psychoanalytic training program at the Center for Human Development.
He has taught at Columbia Mailman School of Public Health and Hunter College, School of the Health Professions. He was appointed by the Governor to the New York State Coordinating Council for Services Related to Alzheimer’s and Other Dementias, serves on Senator Gillibrand’ s Working Group on Aging and was appointed by Mayor DeBlasio to the Age-Friendly New York Commission at the New York Academy of Medicine. In 2019 and 2020 Mr. Levine was recognized as a leader in City & State’s Top 50 and Top 100 Health Power list.
He was the principal investigator for CaringKind’s Palliative Care for Advanced Dementia: Training and Implementation project. Mr. Levine serves on the Community Advisory Board for the NYU Langone Vaccine Center COVID-19 Trials, and NYU Langone’s BOLD Public Health Center of Excellence (PHCOE) on Early Dementia Detection Advisory Council, among other notable community and professional advisory boards. In 2024 he was invited to serve on the Steering Committee for Mount Sinai’s Louis Armstrong Center for Music and Medicine.
In 2022 Mr. Levine joined New York State’s Master Plan on Aging Coalition.
Mr. Levine has presented nationally and internationally on caregiving and dementia care including a fie-week lecture tour in the Republic of South Africa, the Japan-US Conference on Dementia Strategy in Tokyo, Japan, and Promoting Health in Haiti’s Annual Conference for Healthcare Professionals, Port au Prince, Haiti, and in Shenzhen China.
