Helpline (646) 744-2900 Ways to Give

My husband has had Alzheimer’s for 12 years and so with CaringKind I started doing online workshops just to learn, and since then I’ve also done caregiver support groups of various kinds, and the ones that I think are really super special are the ones that are for research where the results will be compiled and shared with other people like me and that are caring for people that we care about a lot and it’s pretty challenging.

You finding the beauty in it all. I mean, I’ve actually just completed a workshop that was for late-stage caregivers and that was very intense and very hard. But when we did the exercise, anticipating what the end would look like, and will feel like and they asked us to think about a good memory, to think about a difficult memory, and then how we would say goodbye. There was no question for me that the first thing for me would be poetry. He would want poetry. And the second thing is there would be music. And I know exactly, you know, Dvorak’s going home song is the thing he wants to hear over and over and over again. And a Japanese guitarist.
