Helpline (646) 744-2900 Ways to Give

My goal every night when I go to sleep is to wake up. And when I wake up, I say to myself – today is a good day, because I woke up, and I’m going to fill my day with as much interest and intrigue as I can, knowing that regardless of where I go, or where I have to be, inevitably I’m going to get lost- because my condition is such that, everything is 10 times more – I’m going to say 100 times more – 1000 times more difficult, than any other time in my life. And yet at the same time, I refuse to surrender to my illness, and so I go about my day every day, knowing that when I get lost, and when I get frustrated, all I have to do is engage my phone and say, Siri, take me home, or Siri take me here. I’m pretty transparent about my illness….and if you allow the illness to stop you from being you then the illness has won. And so I wear my orange bracelet; I’m always wearing orange on my head. It’s strange, I’m proud to say to people that I have Alzheimer’s, and I will talk to anyone whose partner has some kind of symptom. And I tell them you have to confront it, the earlier you confront it the better off it’s going to be for everybody. And everybody has to get used to it.
